renisanz: angelo, jono, & jubilee watching tv (Default)
Here's a synopsis of the novel I plan to write as posted at [livejournal.com profile] lj_nanowrimo :

When confronted with the unusual stipulations of her grandmother's will, moving to back to her Dad's hometown halfway through her senior year of high school is the least of Tara's problems. Miranda is a college student working as a barista at a local coffee shop. All her life she's been waiting for a good adventure. Through a curious turn of events, she meets Tara, and they both cross paths with a mysterious young man who's about to turn all their worlds upside down in his quest to find the next Keeper.

Omg, how cliche' does that sound? I promise it's not that lame. :P

It seems a lot of people are writing fantasy stuff. Mine's on the edge of scifi, mystery, and will probably have a touch of Southern Gothic,* not that I'm really sure what that is exactly, but It's set in the South, and creepy stuff happens. Seems to fit the bill.

I actually got hit with a major plot bunny when trying to figure out the background of the "mysterious young man." He has a name, but it's yet to be revealed in the story, hence the mysterious. I'm seriously about five sentences away from revealing his name in the story, but it's on hold since I decided to backtrack and include a scene in the beginning with Tara at her grandma's funeral. I'm totally drawing from life with this scene, since my paternal grandmother passed away this summer.

And I still have to figure out exactly what a Keeper does. It just sounds cool right now. And therein lies the mystery part of my story. ;)

*Wiki'd after the fact, and my definition was pretty accurate.

Thanks to everyone who's left feedback on my excerpts. It really helps.

I got a good bit of writing down today. I'm at just under 5,000 words, after cranking out a really fun scene.

It was extremely slow at work today, so I got a bit of writing done during that time, filling in some scenes in the very beginning of the story, establishing more of Tara's back story.Today's excerpt features a scene that occurs directly after the scene from yesterday. It's the last thing I wrote for the day.

4867 / 50000 words. 10% done!
