Date: 2012-04-07 08:10 am (UTC)I adore your work on their hair. I always have difficulties with those kind of things. How many hours overall it took you to finish it?

Date: 2012-04-07 12:36 pm (UTC)Drawing hair is always challenge. I did look at references of Katniss' hair in the movie. I sketched it in pencil first until I got it the way I wanted. It was longer, at first, until I remembered that this scene was after part of it has been sheared off in the fire storm.
I was going to say that this drawing didn't take very long, but I often get consumed with what I'm doing and don't realize how much time has passed. In this instance, I probably spent about two and a half hours on it in one sitting... drew everything out in pencil and then went over it with Pigma Micron pens when I was satisfied with the lines.

Date: 2012-05-23 12:28 pm (UTC)I think I draw hair basically the way you describe. I draw the basic shape of the hair, the "outlines," as you said. Then I go draw the details, such as the strokes showing the texture and direction that the hair falls.
I draw braids a little differently, though. Since the details radiates from the center, where the strands of hair interlock into the braid, I draw each section, going down from the start of the braid.
